Earth Friendly and Gluten Free starter’s guide

Good Earth has gluten-free substitutions June 21, 2011

At Good Earth [6], the staff is happy to help you maneuver your way through the menu to find gluten-free substitutions. In the case of the grilled chicken quesadillas ($10.95), an all-corn tortilla can be substituted for the flour one, then filled with grilled chicken, Monterey jack and cheddar cheese, topped with shredded lettuce, diced chilies, sour cream and guacamole. The Good Earth huevos can also be made with a corn tortilla. Vegetable bean soup can be served without croutons. A wide variety of salads, like cashew chicken or almond tuna, are popular with gluten-free diners. “As gluten-free becomes a way of life for many people, Good Earth has become very sensitive to helping people find appropriate choices,” says Donna Fahs of Parasole Restaurant Holdings, Good Earth’s parent company. Galleria, 3510 W. 70th St.; 952.925.1001; Hours: 7 a.m.–10 p.m. Mon.–Sat., 7 a.m.–9 p.m. Sun.

Fat Nat’s Eggs July 6, 2010

This summer, I hope to take the girls out for breakfast once a week.
The first week of the summer we went to Original House of Pancakes in Wayzata (yummy gluten free blueberry pancakes).
The next week we were out of town and then too busy week 3.
Well next Friday will be Fat Nat’s Eggs. Sounds good- organic and homemade meats.

Bad Waitress Restaurant on Eat Street July 3, 2010

We met some friends at the Bad Waitress for breakfast last friday.
Funny name as there aren’t waitresses just people who deliver food to your table- you write up your own order and pass it at the cash register. Food was fine-nothing great in my mind. Kid’s pancake was really cute- decorate with fruit to look like a bear. Cookies and cinnamon roles the size of my head in the glass counter front.

Harvest Moon in Long Lake June 25, 2010

The new coop is finally open in Long Lake. It is kitty corner from McDonalds (Willow and old highway 12).

They had a nice assortment of gluten free and green products.
Not as much as Lakewind but they are new so I will give them a break.
This will be very convient for me next fall when my youngest goes to Orono for school

Dine at The Marsh June 2, 2010

The Marsh offers all locally grown foods. It is very cool- it all looks great and healthly too.
(Think the Food Revolution at the school cafeteria but at an already healthy establishment). Sounds like Simple, Good and Tasty helped The Marsh work on their food sourcing. They made it simply and consistent enough for the Marsh to maintain their menu. Link to the restaurant… click here!
Extra cool note- their ‘plastic’ cups are all made from plants. Learn more about Fabri-Kal serveware… click here!

Simple, Good and Tasty June 1, 2010

Hello! Who wants their food any other way??

Today I met with one of the partner’s of Simple, Good and Tasty. You haven’t heard of them? Well, I hadn’t either but now that I have I will be a follower. I already told my kids about their ‘events’ that help a farmer work his farm. They asked ‘when can we go??” I love their excitement and energy toward the unknown adventures of a day on a farm.

Check out their website … click here!

If you live in the Twin Cities and want to buy local and eat local. They have a huge directory of stores and restaurants. Sign up for their mailing list!

I love Jamie Oliver and his revolution! April 7, 2010

I spend a day a week at my kids’ school working in the cafeteria. Their school lunch program is considered an upgrade to other programs but I tend to question the portion sizes (or waste) for the younger grades and the amount of carbs that are allocated to each lunch (do you really need to serve garlic toast or breadstick with pizza????). Plus my 5th graders brings 2 snacks a day. Seriously, do they need to eat every 2.5 hours from the last time they started eating?
